The Spring Playoffs are here, and everyone is playing today for a spot in the Finals. Let's get into the action!
Game 1: Doc's Irish Pub #4 vs Pitches Be Trippin #5
Our first game features Doc's vs Pitches Be Trippin with the winner getting to face #1 Dark Horse in the semis. Pitches Be Trippin came out swinging and scored four runs in the top of the 1st on an RBI double by Anthony Perretti, a two-run homer by Kevin Levonian and a sac fly to take a 4-0 lead after one. In the bottom of the 2nd, Doc's would get on the board as they scored three runs on an RBI single by Denny Lord and a sac fly to make the score 4-3 Pitches Be Trippin after the 2nd. Pitches Be Trippin would add a run in the top of the 3rd on a fielder's choice to extend their lead to 5-3 after three. In the bottom of the 4th, Doc's would respond with three runs on a homer by Dylan Brooks to take a 6-5 lead heading into the fifth. They would score two more runs in the bottom of the 5th on an RBI single by Kyle Budynkiewcz to make it 8-5 Doc's as Pitches Be Trippin was struggling at the plate. Neither team would score in the 6th which left Pitches Be Trippin down three and only 3 outs to go. In the top of the 7th, Pitches Be Trippin with one out and one runner on, Levonian hit an RBI double to trim the deficit to two. Matthew Sheehan would follow with an RBI triple to pull to within one. A sac fly would tie the game with two outs. Tim Graff would then triple to put the go-ahead runner on. A ground ball looked to end the inning, but an error was made on the play to give Pitches Be Trippin the lead and Doc's down to their final three outs. A leadoff walk followed by a single got Doc's going to put the winning run on 1st with no outs. Pitches Be Trippin then made an incredible double play as Doc's was down to their final out with one runner on. A flyout would make the third out as Pitches Be Trippin comes back late and hangs on to advance in a close one over Doc's 9-8.
Game 2: Purple Cobras #3 vs Pitch Please #6
Game two featured a matchup between the Purple Cobras vs Pitch Please. Pitch Please would bat around in the first inning and score five runs on an RBI triple by Pete Donnelly and RBI singles by Adam Schulang, Jon Beard and Mike Sheridan. Purple Cobras would get two runs back in the bottom of the 1st on an RBI single by Mike Corrigan and an RBI double by Brandon Roman as they stood at 5-2 Pitch Please after one. Pitch Please would then open the game up as they scored ten runs in the top of the 2nd on RBI singles by Dan Altemus, Armand Cencetti, Zach Malloy, a couple RBI walks, an error and an RBI triple by Schulang. Purple Cobras would score two more runs in the bottom of the 2nd on an RBI triple by Tom Friedman and an RBI single by Matt Meindl to make the score 15-4 Pitch Please after the 2nd. Pitch Please would hit a sac fly in the top of the 3rd to add another run and Purple Cobras would add a run as well on another RBI double by Brandon Roman as Pitch Please led 16-5 after three. In the top of the 4th, Pitch Please would continue to add as they scored two more runs on an RBI single by Beard and a fielder's choice. Purple Cobras would answer with two of their own in the bottom of the 4th on an RBI double by Dan Roman and a sac fly as Pitch Please still led big 18-7 after the 4th. Purple Cobras finally were able to stop the bleeding in the 5th and 6th as Pitch Please scored zero runs. Purple Cobras would score four runs combined in the 5th and 6th on an RBI single by Jordan Roman, a homer by Dan Roman and a sac fly to make the score 18-11, but with only one inning left. Pitch Please would hit a sac fly in the top of the 7th to put them up eight with three outs left. Purple Cobras fought till the end as Rey Jimenez hit an RBI single and then a sac fly to score another run but now there were two outs and Purple Cobras still trailed by six. A groundball would make the third out as Pitch Please hitting powers them over Purple Cobras 19-13.
Game 3: Dark Horse #1 vs Pitches Be Trippin #5
Game 3 was the first game of the semifinal between Dark Horse and Pitches Be Trippin with the winner receiving a spot in the finals. Pitches Be Trippin got on the board first in the top of the 1st as they scored two runs on an RBI single by Paul Abendroth and a sac fly. Dark Horse would get one run back in the bottom of the 1st on a fielder's choice as Pitches Be Trippin led 2-1 after one. Pitches Be Trippin would score two more runs in the top of the 2nd on an RBI single by Dan Kalonoski and a fielder's choice to take a 4-1 lead over Dark Horse. In the top of the 3rd, Pitches Be Trippin again added two runs on RBI singles by Abendroth and Kevin Levonian. Dark Horse would squeak one run across in the bottom of the 3rd on a fielder's choice as they still trailed 6-2 after three. Pitches Be Trippin would extend their lead in the top of the 5th on RBI singles by Anthony Perretti and Abendroth as they now led 8-2 after the 5th. Dark Horse would score two runs in the bottom of the 6th on an RBI double by Alex Valeri and an RBI single by Jason Hudachek to cut Pitches Be Trippin's lead to 8-4 with one inning to play. Pitches Be Trippin would fail to score in the top of the 7th which meant Dark Horse would need four to tie and five to win it in the bottom of the 7th. Dark Horse would hit into two quick outs and only one runner on as an upset was on the verge of happening. But then a couple singles and then a two-run RBI double by Adam Quaranta would get them going. Mike Suda would follow with his own RBI double to tie the game and put the winning run at the plate. A groundout would send the game to extras. Extras would get even crazier as Pitches Be Trippin put up five runs in the top of the 8th on an RBI double by Matt Horn, a sac fly and a three-run homer by Levonian as they now led by five with three outs to go again for Dark Horse. Paul Harding would start the scoring for Dark Horse in the bottom of the 10th on his two-run RBI triple as he scored on an error. With one out, Hudachek would hit an RBI single to pull Dark Horse to within two. A fielder's choice that did not result in an out would score another run for Dark Horse as Pitches Be Trippin was in jeopardy of blowing another lead. A walk and an RBI single by Ryan Schock would tie the game and put the winning run in scoring position with only one out. Paul Ferruzzi would deliver the game winning RBI single as Dark Horse made an incredible comeback all with two outs in the 7th inning. Dark Horse wins a thriller 14-13 over Pitches Be Trippin to head to the Finals!
Game 4: One Hit Wonders #2 vs Pitch Please #6
The final game of the day and our second semifinal featured One Hit Wonders vs Pitch Please with the winner getting a spot in the finals to face Dark Horse. Pitch Please would go ahead early as they scored two runs in the top of the 1st on RBI singles by Adam Schulang and Bill Larkin. One Hit Wonders would come out of the gates swinging as they scored eight runs on RBI doubles by Andy Springer and Tom O'Neil, and RBI singles by Rob Gisondi and Jack Stepnowski to take an 8-2 lead after one. Pitch Please would get one back in the top of the 2nd on an RBI double by Mike Miller to make it 8-3 One Hit Wonders after two. Pitch Please would add two more runs in the top of the 3rd on an RBI singles by Jon Beard and Ray Brittingham. Stepnowski would hit another RBI single in the bottom of the 3rd to go up 9-5 after three. Pitch Please would have a big inning in the top of the 4th as they scored five runs on RBI singles by Beard and Brittingham, a sac fly and a walk to take the lead 10-9 after the fourth. Pitch Please would go cold in the 5th and 6th as they could not push any runs across. One Hit Wonders would take full advantage as they scored five runs in the 5th and three in the 6th on a three-run homer by Springer, RBI doubles by Jimmy Cooker, Mike Trivino and Dan Cripps and an RBI single by Jesse Grasso to take a 17-10 lead heading into the 7th. A leadoff single and two flyouts would put Pitch Please down to their final out with one runner on and down seven. Larkin would hit an RBI single to make it 17-11 and Beard would follow with his own RBI single to cut the deficit to five runs. A groundout fielder's choice would make the third out and send Pitch Please home. One Hit Wonders swings the bats late to beat Pitch Please 17-12 and receive a spot in the finals to face Dark Horse.
