B East Playoffs

The spring season playoffs kick off with the 4 seed Dugout Demons Taking on the 5 seed Webb Gems

5. Webb Gems VS 4. Dugout Demons


Webb Gems starts our playoff scoring early, with a 2 Run Home Run off the bat of Arik Fenton to take a 2-0 lead. Dugout Demons knows they can’t wait to get started and comes out hot. Sean Brannan collects the first hit of the game for them and TJ Pergine follows it with a 2 Run Home Run to take the lead. Nate grergory follows TJ with a single and then Jimmy Natale moves Nate to third on a double. John Wagner can knock both in with a 2 RBI double. AJ Dejewski has a patient eye and gets a walk and then Matt Cartwright singles home John. Scott Masulis steps up with 1 out and drives a double to score two. Dugout Demons leads 7-2 after one. In the second inning Webb Gems cuts the leas with three of their own. Alex Larosa doubles to start the inning and then Ryan Delong singles. Ryan Ledeckas takes a walk to load the bases and then Justin Perloff is patient at the plate to walk in the first run of the inning. Joey Greiner singles in the second run and Steve Wilson gets Ryan to cross the plate on a Fielders Choice. Dugout Demons can’t score in the second and we go to the third with Demons leading 7-5. Webb Gems are held scoreless, and Dugout Demons score one run on aggressive base running by Matt Cartwright after his double. Scott Masulis moves him over, but an error on the tag allows Matt to score. Webb Gems gets one back in the fourth off a Justin Perloff sac fly to keep the gap at 2, but then Dugout Demons grabs two more in the bottom of the fourth. TJ Pergine knocks Christian Wagner in after his leadoff single and then Jimmy Natale knocks TJ in on a sac fly. Webb Gems attempts to make the 5th their big inning, with a two run Home Run from Moke Touey, but can’t muster any more and the lead stays at 2 for Dugout Demons. Demons add one in the bottom of the sixth after a one-out TJ Pergine double TO COMPLETE THE CYCLE and John Wagner single scores him. Down three, Webb Gems musters only a Steve Wilson single before retiring in the 7th.

Dugout Demons moves on with a 12-9 win over Webb Gems.

Player of the Game: TJ Pergine, 4-4. Single, double, triple, Home Run, 3 RBIs, 3 Runs

The second playoff game sees the three seed Stiff Sox take on the 6 seed Philly’s Phinest.

6. Stiff Sox VS 3. Phillys Phinest


After a scoreless top half, Philly’s Phinest takes the lead after the leadoff Joe Carpino single is knocked in from Tony Summer’s double. We see a scoreless second and then Philly’s Phinest adds two in the third with a two run Home Run from Scott Vogelman. They add one more in the 4th off an RBI single and two more in the sixth with a Mike Rocks Jr 2 run Home Run. Philly’s Phinest is able to shut down the Stiff Sox offense, with 15 fly outs and giving up only 8 hits in total.

Player of the Game: Scott Vogelman, 1-3, Home Run, two RBIs, one run

Game 3 sees Dugout Demons, after winning one game earlier, take on the 1 seed Birds of War

4. Dugout Demons VS 1. Birds of War

Dugout Demons starts the game patiently. Christian Wagner and Sean Brennan draw back-to-back walks before Nate Gregory hits a sac fly to drive Wagner in and Jimmy Natale drives Brennan in the next at bat. Birds of War tie it back up in the bottom of the first, after a Matt Jacobson single and Tom Bush double puts two on for Ryan Thompson, who knocks them both in. The second is scoreless for both teams before we go into the third tied at 2. TJ Pergine stays hot with a solo Home Run, but Birds of War comes back and gets a triple from Jay Cowan and Home Run from Matt Jacobson to take the lead. The lead doesn’t last long as Dugout Demons gets two in the top of the fourth from an RBI double off Christian Wagner and RBI single from Nate Gregory. Birds of War ties it back up though, with a Austin Devlin RBI. Dugout Demons takes the lead back with a solo Home Run from John Wagner, but we have yet another lead change when Birds of War come up in the bottom of the 5th. A solo Home Run from Tom Bush and two run Home Run from Justin Kneebone, with a walk from Ryan Thompson sandwiched in between the two at bats, gives Birds of War a two-run lead. Dugout Demons can’t muster anything in the sixth and Birds of War capitalize. Sonny Rey reaches on an error, which is followed by Austin Devlin and Jay Cowan singles before Matt Jacobson knocks Rey in. Tom Bush cleans up two more on a double and then Justin Kneebone knocks him in with a single of his own. Birds of War add 4 in the bottom of the sixth and we go into the seventh with them leading 12-6. TJ Pergine leads Dugout Demons off with a single and will score on a John Wagner single, but the next two batters will fly out and Dugout Demons falls short in a back-and-forth game.
Birds of War advance to the finals with a 12-7 win over Dugout Demons

Player of the Game: Tom Bush, 2 doubles, Home Run, 3 RBIs, 3 runs

The final game of the evening is the 3 Seed Philly’s Phinest VS the 2 seed Balls Deep.

3. Philly’s Phinest VS 2. Balls Deep

Philly’s Phinest get two on but can’t cross the plate in the top of the first. Balls Deep capitalizes with a fast start. Trevor Harris leads off with a single, John Aiken follows him with a single of his own, and then Tim Frei blasts a 3 run Home Run. Tim Gluck keeps it going with a single and Nick Carl joins in with a single of his own. Will Schultz knocks one more in an RBI double and Balls Deep take a 4-0 lead. Both teams are held scoreless in the second, but Philly’s Phinest gets two back in the third after leadoff back-to-back walks from John Quartullo and Chase Rommel and then a Chris Rocks single loads the bases. Joe Carpino knocks in one with a sac fly and then Scott Vogelman brings in the other on a Fielder’s Choice. Philly’s Phinest gets another back in the top of the 4th with an RBI single from Chris Rommel after Ray Rocks walks to cut the lead to one. Balls Deep gets a solo home run from Josh Carl to extend it back to two going into the 5th. Shawn Dougherty leads off with a single and John Quartullo follows with one of his own and Chase Rommel draws a walk to load the bases. Chris Rocks ground into a fielder’s choice where Shawn scores, and Joe Carpino knocks Rommel in with a single to tie the game. Philly’s Phinest takes the lead in the top of the sixth with a leadoff walk from Mike Rocks Jr and Tony Summer follows with a walk of his own. Bill Schubert knocks Rocks JR in on a ground ball and they lead 6-5 going to the bottom of the 6th. Josh Carl leads off with a single for Balls Deep and Tom Gallo follows with a single of his own. John Aiken knocks Carl in with a sac fly and we are tied after 6. The seventh sees Drew Costello start with a single and Steve Walker follow before a flyout, and failed tag and a strikeout ends the inning before any damage can be done. Going to the bottom of the seventh tied and a ticket to the championship on the line, Bob Stanley starts off with a single before a strikeout and fielders’ choice has them down to two outs. A Josh Carl walk puts two runners on with two outs, but a flyout to right ends the inning. We move to extras, with John Quartullo starting on second for Philly’s Phinest. Rommel and Rocks fly out before Joe Carpino draws a walk. Scott Vogelman draws a bases loading walk and Mike Rocks JR hits a Grand Slam to take a 4-run lead. Tom Gallo starts on second for Balls Deep and John Aikens gets a single with one out to put two runners on. Tim Gluck hits a 3-run home run to get them within one, but Balls Deep flies out on the next at bat and falls short.

Philly’s Phinest, led by patient at bats, draws 9 walks and wins in 8 innings, 10-9
